What exactly is a grinding splint (Relax-Guard)

The Veneera™ Relax-Guard is a custom-made grinding splint that protects your teeth from the effects of bruxism. Bruxism is the unconscious, usually nocturnal activity of the chewing muscles; that is, grinding, pressing the teeth together or tightening and shifting the lower jaw. Teeth grinding puts up to 10 times more pressure on your teeth than normal chewing. The Relax-Guard distributes this pressure evenly and thus relieves the jaw muscles.

The Veneera™ Relax-Guard is suitable for anyone who grinds their teeth at night. The Relax-Splint protects your teeth from wear and tear and your jaw and neck muscles from tension during nighttime teeth grinding, which in turn ensures a much better night's sleep.

How is the Relax-Guard made?

The Relax-Guard is custom-made for your own teeth. First, plaster models of both your jaws are made based on your teeth impressions, which you create at home using the Veneera™ impression kit and video instructions. The plaster models are digitised, which is then used to virtually model your Relax-Splint, taking into account your counterbite.

In this way, we produce a precisely fitting Relax-Guard that is individually shaped for you.

Which jaw is the Relax-Guard for?

The Relax-Guard is always made for the upper jaw, because the upper jaw is always larger than the lower jaw and thus there is a larger surface area available to cushion night grinding. Moreover, it is the lower jaw that exerts the force and presses against the upper jaw. This means that the Relax-Guard can provide very good resistance in the upper jaw.
